About the Event

Activity: We will be planting 400 trees in our woodland restoration area, close to the parking lot. Volunteers will also help to install stakes and tree tubes to protect the trees as they grow.

Timing: Please arrive promptly by 1:00 PM so we can begin working right away. Though our staff will be available all afternoon, you are welcome to leave early if you would like.

Location: volunteers will not be parking in the main Leopold's Preserve parking lot. When you arrive on Thoroughfare Road, please follow the directional signage which will be posted on the side of the road. The approximate parking location is 16260 Thoroughfare Rd. You'll be parking in a mowed field with a hard dirt and grass surface. The location will be marked with signage, the gate will be open for you, and there will be a table with a pop-up tent located nearby. If you are running late or get lost, please give us a call at (571) 358-2098.

Supplies: every volunteer will need a pair of thick work gloves to protect their hands. You will also need to bring your own shovel and a mallet or hammer. If you have a five-gallon bucket available, please bring that as well.

Attire: all volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. As always, "dress for a mess" and don't wear your favorite clothes. We will be working in the woods off of the main trail - you may encounter mud, thorns, and uneven ground. We also recommend wearing bug spray and tucking your clothes in to avoid picking up ticks, as well as conducting a thorough tick check after you return home.

Food: in appreciation of your hard work, we will be offering light refreshments before and after your volunteer shift (chips, fruit, etc). You are welcome to bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on while you enjoy your snacks. Please bring your own bottle of water to drink.
