About the Event
A BioBlitz is a community citizen science project that focuses on recording and identifying as many species as possible within a given location and time frame. In partnership with the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, we are hosting a BioBlitz here at Leopold's Preserve!
During the BioBlitz, volunteers will explore Leopold's Preserve and record their observations of different species. These observations must be uploaded to iNaturalist to be counted for the tally. If you haven't used iNaturalist before, we strongly recommend creating your free account and making practice observations prior to the BioBlitz. You can make observations using a smartphone app or via the iNaturalist website. If you want more guidance, detailed tutorials are available at https://help.inaturalist.org/en/support/home.
This event is open to the public - we welcome participants of all ages and experience levels. To streamline the observation process, we'll be breaking participants into four smaller groups to focus on different organisms - plants, arthropods (bugs), birds, and herps (reptiles and amphibians). When you register, please indicate which group you are most interested in supporting.
