About the Event
Does it make you sad to see trees smothered by vines? You can do something about it!
Our partners at Plant NOVA Trees and the Merrimac Farm Master Naturalists will teach you how to identify invasive and harmful vines which are smothering trees in our region. Their Tree Rescuers program is a model which can help you join a community of volunteers dedicated to saving trees in Northern Virginia. After the educational portion, participants can put their skills to the test and help clear out invasive vines around the Preserve.
You will learn about:
- Invasive vines that kill trees and how to control them
- How to recognize native vines that should be left alone
- How to be a Tree Rescuer volunteer for your community, alerting the neighbors by dropping off brochures.
Afterwards there will be an optional vine-clipping session. Wear clothes to protect against thorns, ticks and poison ivy. We recommend long sleeves, pants, and thick work gloves. Please also bring sun protection and something cool to drink.
