About the Event
Vultures are a critical component of the ecosystem yet are frequently misunderstood and maligned. This talk will provide the facts and information you need to become an informed and enthusiastic advocate for these amazing species. The presentation will explore the natural history of vultures in Virginia, the basic biology and ecology of our native vultures, and highlight some human–vulture conflicts and mitigation strategies.
Since 2017, Heather Shank-Givens has been an active volunteer wildlife rehabilitator with the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center. Additionally, she holds permits for a non-releasable vulture wildlife ambassador, Vega. Together over the past 5 years they have reached hundreds of people of all ages, sharing the critical role of vultures in the ecosystem and the challenges they face globally.
